A new announcement has recently been made on the official website of the Data Protection Authority (www.kvkk.gov.tr) re. Decision No. 2019/387 of Personal Data Protection Board (“Board”) on “Postponement of the commencement date and deadline for the registration to the Data Controllers Registry” which was published in the Official Gazette numbered 30992 and dated December 28, 2019 (“New Decision”).

As known, before the New Decision, the deadlines determined for registration with the Data Controllers registry were:
(i) December 31, 2019 for real or legal person data controllers (i) whose annual employee number exceed 50 or annual financial balance sheet is higher than TRY 25 million, and (ii) who are located abroad,
(ii) March 31, 2020 for real or legal person data controllers (i) whose annual employee number is below 50 and annual financial balance sheet is lower than TRY 25 million, but who processes sensitive personal data, and
(iii) June 30, 2020 for public institutions and organizations.

As a result of research and evaluation by the Board, the Board has decided to extend the deadline for the fulfillment of registration requirement for (i) until June 30, 2020, for (ii) until September 30, 2020 and finally for (iii) until December 31, 2020.
